"KUYA MARK"

Standing patiently, looking around as we wait for another jeepney driver to come cross our paths, it was Kuya Mark’s warm smile and vibrant jeepney that greeted us. We sat down with him to know more about his life.Kuya Mark is a 33-year-old jeepney driver, who first started to work jeepneys in the year 2015.

Originally from the picturesque province of Pangasinan, he ventured and took a risk to make a living here in the city, seeking a life that would provide for his growing family. Now residing in Taguig City, Kuya Mark’s days are filled with joy as he fathers two children, a 7-year old and a 2 year-old, who both gives him the motivation and jubilee amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

"Kuya Mark" in his Jeepney

Mark told us that he starts filling up his jeepney with passengers as early as 5 am. and he finds that 7 to 8PM are the “rush hours” for his route. “Between 7 to 8, dati 9 — kung tutuusin dati 10 eh, pero nung nagka pandemic saglit lang ang rush hour.” He says that his kids usually sound asleep by the time he gets home, but he makes the most of his rest days spending time with them.

“Tulog na sila eh pag dumarating ako. Pag coding ko lang ayun di na ako pupunta dito, dun lang ako sa kanila. Ako naghahatid sa kanila sa iskul, tapos pag half day lang pasok nila, ayun nilalaro ko lang sila.”
